Breaking You

Breaking News…….is it though?

The problem of constant alerts and flood of information and attempts at grabbing our attention was a problem long before the COVID19 pandemic swept across our world. But add in what has now been months of the flood of news and data, much of which is tagged as “breaking” and you can see the impact it is having on people.

You may have heard the term Coronavirus or Pandemic burnout or fatigue (not to be confused with the clinical condition of chronic fatigue which we have seen in some cases of COVID19 patients post recovery from the acute disease)

Your first incremental step to coping – take a break.

Pause – Take a Break

Do it now, it doesn’t have to be a long break, but just get up, walk around, go outside if possible and catch some fresh air and look around, and appreciate your surroundings and the world around.

Next up is switching off all the alerts – do you really need to know an email just arrived, someone just texted or pinged you on <pick the name of the platform(s) you use>. You certainly don’t need any of the “breaking news” alerts from any of the media organizations. What impact do they have on you aside from grabbing your attention, raising your stress levels, and distracting you?

Keep building on this – plan in time to meditate, do some yoga, or better yet, take a complete digital break and disconnect from all the news and media. Your body, your mind, and likely your family and friends will all thank you
