The Dis-Information Dozen
We kick off this month’s discussion. touching on the recent drivel emerging from Robert Kennedy, one of the core members of the “Dis-Information Dozen”. He like all the others is on the money train of disinformation. They even claimed they would pay $100,000 to a preferred charity if a scientist would come on the air and debate – amongst others Peter Hotez, MD, PhD (a genuine hero imo) did but they have yet to deliver on their promise but created a mob to stalk him at his home!
AI Takeover: When Science Fiction Magazines Say ‘Enough is Enough!
Naturally, our conversation turns to the ever-popular ChatGPT which continues to gain in popularity and keeps on surprising us all with the potential use cases. Sadly we are already seeing misuse that includes a lawyer whose court briefings generated by ChatGPT got him into hot water as they contained fictional legal references.
Adding to the challenges is the explosion of content being produced as highlighted by Mark Shaefer in his recent post: How to beat ChatGPT and the new wave of Content Shock which included several examples:
- A science fiction magazine now receives so many AI-generated stories that it stopped taking submissions.
- Amazon is overwhelmed with new ChatGPT book submissions. One author “wrote” a 119-page novella in a day and claimed he would write 300 books in a year. Amazon Direct Publishing is so swamped it is increasing its costs for a self-published book for the first time in a decade.
- And it’s not just written content flooding the market. There are now AI-generated podcasts, movies, and music.
Caution is advised ahead but the benefits are in our opinion apparent and exciting putting Chat GPT as a tool for drafting, adding authority or emotional intelligence to writing, and overcoming writer’s block.
I mention the recent AI Med Summit held in San Diego that was brimming with exciting insights and content and looks to be a great conference in the coming years
Apple’s Vision Pro Glasses: Are They Really Worth the Price of a Small Nation
We talk about the Apple announcements from this month in particular the Vision Pro mixed reality glasses which offer a mix of virtual and spatial computing. We are both skeptical of the device, its price, and its usefulness, and wonder about its practical applications and the potential for future improvements. That said it offers some interesting “Minority Report” like capabilities for interacting with technology
Listen in to hear our thoughts on the New York Times article The Moral Crisis of America’s Doctors something we both feel and concur Craig discusses the latest information on the potential effectiveness or not of Beta Blockers in treating patients with Myocardial Infarction (heart attack).
