This week I am talking to Craig Joseph, MD (@CraigJoseph) Chief Medical Officer at Avaap. We home in on the announcement from Epic at their UGM of Cosmos and the opportunities that access to this data offers and the challenges associated with anonymization (and the DefCon talk I mentioned – Dark Data, video and pdf) in today’s super-connected digital age.
Craig highlights the utility of this type of technology citing Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha work looking into data that ultimately exposed the lead in the water crisis in Flint Michigan.
We discuss the current vaping crisis and explore the potential for exposing these issues and problems earlier with shared data but continue to bump up against interoperability challenges with the potential for Apple and their push to disrupt the status quo on sharing of data with “Health Records”. As Craig puts it
Happy for anyone to take ownership of this – maybe they can break the logjam
In the inimitable words of MythBusters – we consider it plausible
Genomics Screening
As for Ancestry entry into the Genetic Health Screening and their path to avoid FDA problems by looking to have tests ordered by doctors – we are not convinced.
Conference Update
Finally a shout out to the CNS Summit that takes place October 31 – November 3 in Boca Raton, a conference I have described as The Eclectic and Energizing Conference and have written about more than once. I will be reporting back the details in next month’s discussion in the News Roundup or you could still sign up and join me.
