The Incrementalist Graphic Craig Joseph

As I did last month I am talking to Craig Joseph, MD (@CraigJoseph) Chief Medical Officer at Avaap.

This week we focused on the high cost of healthcare and the underlying reasons that was a trending topic thanks to this tweet from Ezra Klein

Perhaps it was deliberate on the part of the author to point the finger at doctors

The biggest lie in health care politics is that it’s just the insurers who are keeping prices high throughout the system. It’s not. The providers are the bigger problem, and they’re harder to fight because people trust them.

There was a lot of reaction to this from many of my friends and colleagues and we spend some time discussing the difference in incomes of doctors which fails to account for the massive debt US graduates are saddled with coming out of medical school and the lost income for 11+ years.

We discuss the concept of free Medical School tuition that is on offer at Geisinger and the new Kaiser Medical School which highlights the problem with the complex healthcare system – there is no one easy answer or solution. Listen in to hear what we have to say about the virtual training for surgeons and the rise of YouTube Medical training.

Wishing you all a very happy holidays and a special treat a 3 way tasting of Scottish Malt Whisky
