Personalized Temperature Control
Maybe you struggle with thermostat wars at home and the inability to agree on the temperature to suit everyone. I have been living this challenge all the way back to childhood when my father was the first to the heating system controls to turn down the temperature for the whole house as he was “hot”. I have been watching this company for a while so I was looking forward to talking with Sam Shames, the COO and Co-Founder of Embr (@EmbrWave), at the Sleepshow, which is the new wearable that helps manage your personal temperature control.
By just heating and cooling a small area on the inside of the wrist you can influence your personal perception and comfort with the ambient temperature. It might sound implausible until you try the device and discover that this small area can have a larger impact on your sense of temperature thanks to the high density of nerve endings in your wrist. The physiological effect is achieved in the same way holding a warm cup of tea or hot chocolate on a cold day (I’m willing to bet as you read this you might even perceive that warmth even without holding the cup). Temperature sensation is so much more than just the ambient temperature and this small device capitalizes on that to create a wearable solution to help manage personal “thermal wellness”.
Conflict of Interest: Embr was kind enough to give me a device after this interview which I have been trying for the last week.
