Last week I had the opportunity to experience the first ever Vive Event in Mimi Beach Florida. This was the first return to something resembling the normality of conference experiences. There were a few differences including the requirement to provide vaccination proof and COVID19 testing before being admitted
but once completed attendees were free to experience the conference without masks. There was a system to allow people to indicate if they felt uncomfortable with close contact but as the basket shows, the majority of wristbands being taken were green. So most attendees were find with handshakes and hugs
Many of the same themes from the last two years were present (connectivity, lack of resources, Cybersecurity, staffing) but I sensed more focus and attention on inequity and inclusion than past conferences.
Focus on Digital Health and Investment
Based on attendance the session: Forget the money show me the ROI was packed to capacity suggesting a big interest form the attendees in where healthcare investment is going. My takeaways from this session included:
- Not about the initial cost but what is the ongoing cost of delivering the solution
- Does it truly positively impact the workflow and efficiency
- Primary care Physicians think they are in a monogamous relationship with their patients but they are not
- Investors and Venture Capital assess everything by NPV – Net Present Value
- Anything above the line is investment this year, below the line is to put off the next year
- Interesting comment regarding loss of patients – just keeping 1% of their patients in the system contributes $100 million
- Table stakes is basic ROI
- VOI – Value on Investment
- It is not just the patient experience but also the employee experience
- Focus on what problems you re solving for healthcare and why it matters
Future Technology
I met with several companies and you can see the interview with Viviscout – Non Invasive Arterial Line here
and the interview with Axuall – who are automating Clinical Credentialing
And the Smart Tab company who have a number of prototypes to deliver drugs into the body in pill format. In the image below you can see them next to a regular pill and with variations including an injectable that dispenses into the gut walls, and multi dose pill giving a drug or maybe even different drugs at different times and or locations
There were many others including BlueSkeye AI bringing facial understanding capabilities to mental health with objective assessments of health and well being, Brainify.AI that has developed an objective method of assessing depression confirming that innovation and investment is booming in the health technology space and progress seems to be accelarting
Walking Gallery
We also managed to collect some of the Walking Gallery members for a picture together
