Please join me and SureScripts on Thursday, October 8th from 3:00-3:30 ET with David Chou (@dchou1107 ) honoring National Health IT Week with our Connected Patient Tweet Chat We hope you will come and share your perspectives and join the conversation regarding all things connected healthcare and the increasing role that digital health must play in the patient experience. 1) Patients’ digital expectations are growing . We’re hearing more and more from patients themselves that technology needs to be an integral part in the care delivery process. So much so that nearly half of Americans would opt for online capabilities vs. handling over the phone, such as getting lab test results (48%), filling out paperwork ahead of a doctor’s appointment (48%), accessing their medical records (47%), and filling prescriptions (47%).1 Given the increasing desire for a tech-driven care experience, how can patients help spur technology adoption by their providers? 2) As the population ages, technology adoption and information exchange within the long term and post-acute care settings becomes increasingly more important. How can LTPAC facilitates overcome challenges of limited resources (financial and workforce) to bring patient care delivery into the 21st century? 3) Americans who take prescription medications for chronic conditions are also feeling the pain from a lack of tech-adoption, where a majority of Surescripts’ survey respondents noted that their doctors typically don’t offer them access to online condition management tools (84%) or make themselves available online or via email for questions (79%). What needs to happen to break down these barriers? 4) E-prescribing is often referenced as a case study of success for interoperability and information exchange. What lessons can be draw from eRx adoption and applied to more holistic industry interoperability?
