Building a Trusting Relationship
This week I am talking to Ramin Bastani, (@Raminb) CEO of Healthvana, who has built a direct communication platform for patients and doctors that has been working to deliver test results quickly and accurately for HIV for a number of years and has expanded into COVID19. Ramin’s journey started out caring for his father and struggling with poor communications and lack of transparency of information access in healthcare.
They set out with a goal to end HIV, picking an especially thorny problem to solve given the sensitive nature of individuals’ HIV status and sexual history but their incremental insight was that because it was difficult few others were working to address the problem leaving the field open for innovation.
They see the value in quickly sharing information with patients which came up recently online with this question
I want to have an honest discussion with both physician and patient perspectives. How do people feel about auto-release of lab results, imaging, pathology reports to patients before a physician is able to review it with the patient? #MedTwitter

This issue and concern continues to come up
My response
Still sad to see so much -ve perspective to this
Open notes demonstrated many years back that ‘harm’ is minimal benefit high
Subjecting a Pt to waiting while an overwhelmed #healthcare system gets to sharing their data = unnecessary stress

Am I Going to be OK?
In the Healthvana world, transparent quick sharing of information is critical to success and helps them answer the question all patients are asking
Am I Going to be OK
(and if not what do I need to know/should I do – the call to action)
With a raft of experience and success in HIV, they found themselves with an excellent opportunity to help the world dealign with the SARS-CoV-2 vies and the COVID19 pandemic with a solution that is designed to reliably deliver results and offers some additional benefits. Listen in to hear how they are helping deliver 3 Million COVID19 test results (and counting) and how they hope to compliment contact tracing and ultimately support the rollout of the vaccine when they become available.
