Inspiration Exchange
This week I am talking to Adam Gonzalez, Ph.D., Director of Behavioral Health at Stony Brook Medicine (@StonyBrookMed) and the work they have done to mitigate ether enormous strains placed on healthcare workers dealing with the COVID19 pandemic. Building on the creation of the Mind-Body Clinical Research Center that was created back in 2015 and some work with NASA to research the impact of the long duration of stress they gathered a Mental Health Disaster Group to brainstorm ideas for taking care of patients and employees
What emerged was a range of resources and concepts including the “Resilience Room” – an area of respite for employees, equipped with snacks, drinks, de-stressing activities that to date has received over 20,000 visits! They used technology to create some incremental improvements in well-being including the sharing of positive messages through digital channels with all employees and also in physical form with pictures placed on walls. With utilization for their daily support meetings low, they made a small incremental change in the name, moving to a “Mindfulness and meditation Session” increasing uptake and attendance.
Listen in to hear about their Inspiration Exchange wall and wellness champions and learn how you can create your own resilience room in your place of work.
